"For me to be able to get up and tell other people how I lived and how things have changed, I feel I am helping them. I was strong so that other people can learn."

Agnes

Agnes was unable to attend school as a child, but she is now enrolled in literacy classes, and ultimately plans to launch her own business.

"The Samfya Women Filmmakers shouldn't end here, we should go forward and keep making more movies. Just like a fire when it's burning, it should keep on burning."

Bridget is the single mother of a seven-year-old daughter. She recently graduated from high school, and is studying social work in Zambia’s capital, at the University of Lusaka.

"When I was told about this group on the first day, I didn’t know what the purpose was. I thought it was some little group that would not take me anywhere. I never imagined we would go so far. I learned that when you work hard a lot of things come your way."

Frieda

Frieda, 27, camera, I’ve Found My Way

Frieda is the single mother of a four-year-old daughter, and guardian of her three nephews whose parents have passed away. She has a small business selling jewellery, and has returned to high school. In the future, she hopes to become a teacher. A lot of people in the community get caught in the burdens they carry in their hearts. But when they share their stories, those burdens become easier to bear.
